2010
We had a 6am start and already my team was down to just to just two! Me and Kelly Love.... The morning started surprisingly well and this was reiterated when then boys team missed their first ferry. The great thing about that was that we would all get to meet up and have breakfast. It was only when we boarded the ferry that we realised they were on the other ferry and we were on Sea France. Our first mission was to be carried out on the ferry - photograph a stranger in a wig! We became like stalkers eyeing people up and assessing them. Kelly managed to persuade a frightened member of the Seafrance staff to put the wig on.
Then the next challenge was to photograph a person with facial hair with a wig. This was particularly funny as many of the men did not look very approachable, then I spotted these two game young men who I literally shouted "Facial Hair" at.
From the ferry we drove to Paris - exhausting our play list and listening to a lot of Fleetwood Mac very loud .... We decided that driving through Paris was insane and opted for parking on the outskirts and zooming in on the metro. Easier said than done. We had no idea where the nearest stop to the Eiffel Tower but before then we could not even work out what stop we were at. Eventually a really nice french guy managed to communicate to us that he was going that way and we could follow him. We hopped on and of tubes walked down streets, always two feet behind out new guide and his friends. All I could say was "les petite cheins" and point at us as we resumed the roll of his new dogs! The Eiffle Tower was fun and the challenge was to play bowels at the Eiffle Tower. We twisted this a bit and played with Boules. Met crazy tourists, eyed up dogs that we considered putting wigs on, drank expensive coffee and enjoyed some tomfoolery!
The next three hours went pretty smoothly, music, car games, fluffy clouds, chatting and straight roads. But then Luca and Kelly over took us and there was suddenly an overwhelming smell of burning. I quickly phoned Kelly " Pull over you car smells bad!" We pulled over opened the engine and let the car cool down. There was a bad smell but we could see nothing wrong. We called our mechanic friend who suggested we check various things but all appeared ok. We decided the best thing to do was to stop regularly as maybe the car was over heating. About half an hour later Betty's gears appeared to die and we pulled over on the hard shoulder. Calling the guys and asking them to double back to meet us on the hard shoulder. At this stage it was all still quite fun. It was super hot and we could sunbathe roadside and seeing Luca dressed up in a yellow saftey jacket was hilarious - Kelly was convinced we could make some money from the photos which I can not post for fear of Luca!!! The guys were amazing and walked along the motor way to the nearest emergency phone. The break down service arrived flashing lights and all, kelly and I oblivious to the seriousness of the situation still had a spring in our step and were even laughing about how exciting it was to be in a breakdown vehicle..... to be continued...
